Addiction comes in many forms: drugs, alcohol, smoking, eating, sex, and any number of behaviors. ALCOHOL & SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Drug and alcohol addictions begin with the voluntary act of drinking alcohol or taking drugs, but over time can lead to a person feeling they no longer control their drug or alcohol use. The compulsive, drug or alcohol-seeking behaviors can have devastating consequences on his or her life. Working in collaboration with the medical, group support, and any other programs, Dr. Kirschner helps you to address the addiction and find a healthy life through drug and alcohol recovery counseling.

BEHAVIORAL ADDICTION

Behavioral addiction is a broad term that applies to an addiction to a behavior or behaviors. Gambling addiction, porn addiction, internet addiction, and television addiction are all prevalent examples of behavioral addiction. The underlying component is an addiction, not to a substance, but to a behavior or the internal response that behavior brings about.

FOOD ADDICTION

Food addiction is one specific form of behavioral addiction that typically shows itself through perceived uncontrollable cravings for excessive amounts of food, or a specific type of food. Food addiction is often accompanied by weight problems, though some people limit their weight gain with other negative behaviors, like excessive exercising, purging, or refusing to eat. Food addiction is typically accompanied by feelings of shame or sadness when eating, or by eating as an emotional response to negative or positive events. At the Life Mastery Center, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and hypnotherapy are used to help you challenge the behaviors and thoughts that are behind your addiction to food.

SMOKING CESSATION

An addiction to smoking cigarettes is both chemical and behavioral. Smoking behavior is ritualistic, leading to thinking and behavioral association between certain activities and smoking. Smoking cigarettes may also be a response to certain emotional experiences, such as stress, anxiety, or even pleasure. Smoking cessation is a process to address the addiction to smoking cigarettes. To address the behavioral component of an addiction to smoking cigarettes, Dr. Kirschner makes use of hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. With this approach, the behaviors and emotional responses that have become entwined with smoking are addressed, not just your chemical dependency. Ready to make a change?
